You don’t have to spend a fortune to create beautiful wedding flowers, but it’s worth investing time thinking about the style and atmosphere you want to create for your wedding.

Here are our top five tips to help you find the perfect floral style for your special day.

Tip #1 - Create a mood board

If you’re looking for inspiration, Pinterest and Instagram are a great place to start. Search for bouquets, centerpieces, and other floral arrangements, and save or ‘Pin’ the styles you like. You’ll start to see similar themes emerge which will help you (and your florist) work out your style.

Tip #2 - Work out your budget

There’s no hard and fast rule about how much you should spend on your wedding flowers. This depends on how important flowers are for you as a couple. Be open with your florist about how much you have to spend and they can guide you on where best to place your budget.

Tip #3 - Look at seasonal availability

Some flowers are only available at certain times of the year, and some can be more affordable when in season. Choosing seasonal flowers is also a more sustainable option. Imported flowers from overseas can have a huge impact on the carbon footprint of your wedding, so talk to your florist about using local, seasonal blooms.

Tip #4 - Choose your colour palette

Pastel tones with a pop of colour are great for spring, while burnt orange tones work well in autumn. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, flowers that complement the season will create harmony with your overall style.

Tip #5 - Consider the venue

The location of your wedding or décor of the venue can influence the style of flowers you choose. For example, a laid-back, bohemian style would suit a beach wedding, while natural, garden flowers look great in a more rural setting. Your venue might also have a key feature you want to highlight.
